Youth of the Year
For more than 50 years, the Kiwanis Club of Birmingham has been serving and recognizing outstanding youth in the Birmingham area. The Youth of the Year scholarship is awarded to high school students who exemplify academic determination and civic dedication. Recipients also show good character and promising leadership skills.
The general scholarship application form is due February 8, 2024. The finalist will be required to interview virtually via Zoom with members of the Youth of the Year committee on March 15 or March 18, 2024. The committee conducts interviews in person or by means of the virtual platform. Scholarship recipients will be notified no later than the end of March 2024. Recipients will be honored at a luncheon on April 16, 2024.
To be eligible for the Youth of the Year Scholarship, the applicant must:

- Be a current resident of Jefferson or Shelby County
- Enroll as a full or part-time student in any private or public accredited two- or four-year college or vocational-technical school for the upcoming academic year
- Demonstrate a solid academic performance with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Demonstrate active participation and leadership in community activities
- Demonstrate leadership skills and potential for leadership success
