Kiwanis Reads is a program that focuses on inspiring a desire for reading among children in the Birmingham area. The program provides an opportunity for children to collect their own books, to encourage them to learn how to read, and to build a foundation for achieving in academics.

For the Kiwanis Read initiative, Kiwanians volunteer to read books to head start classrooms in Birmingham schools. After the book is read to the classroom, the children are given a copy of the book so that they can practice reading the book at home. The book is a gift provided by the Kiwanis Club of Birmingham in the hopes that it will help children develop a love for reading and let their imagination soar.
